Now let me warn you now. This is no ordinary blog post.
This is a love story.
It starts and finishes with Elanor and Brian.
I followed them on a date and got to know them. I was able to listen to their stories. Listen to their experiences, their studies, their lives..together …and apart. Where one leaves off, the other picks up. They may have to live separately for a temporary period, but their hearts are inseparable.
Brian originates from Atlanta, USA. Elanor moved with her family from Scotland when she was 11. I have to say, with slight Scottish, a mix of Kiwi and the influence of Brian’s American accent… Elanor has so much beauty in her voice. I loved listening to her. So that’s what I did. And boy was I in for a treat! I’ve met a lot of interesting people, with interesting stories over the past few years… Elanor and Brian shoot into the top percentage.
5 years after meeting, several moves around the country, a hand full of trips back to the US and a long distance relationship. Brian has finished a pHD, Elanor is still completing one. Brian studied Sperm Whales, measuring how deep they spend most of their time all with acoustics. So they spent a lot of time in Kiakoura, where they are to be married. Elanor is studying the Hector Dolphin and their eating patterns and why they go where they go.
She’s into a bit of photography herself, using a Nikon, she said “it doesn’t look anything like your camera”.. but Elanor.. you have a protective casing to take photos underwater… I don’t have that! Jealous!
2 nights before New Years last year, having dinner… Elanor asks, “Should we make tonight our New Years dinner?” and Brian replies with… “How about we make this our Engagement dinner instead?”… not even noticing Brian was holding up a ring, Elanor said YES!
Let the date begin…
Currently living 5 minutes out of Akaroa… we skipped into town to have a walk around see what we could find. We started at the jetty.
Brian got his dream job just 6 months after graduating. In Tasmania. So excitingly, but also a bit heart breaking, Brian moves to Tasmania soon, yip before the wedding. And Elanor follows after she completes her studies next March.
These two were such a pleasure to hang out with. They just know how to be together. Look at them rocking it!
How cute are they?!
And not to mention Elanor is incredibly beautiful. The inside-out kind of beautiful.
A brief glance at the ring for now… the story behind it is A-MAH-ZING. Passed down through the family, Elanor was given Brian’s Grandmother’s engagement ring. Personally delivered by a friend from the States. It. is. stunning.
But I think she’s more stoked with her man.
Next on the date… coffee at The Pepper Tree…
Eesh..I love this setting!
Can you tell they are totally into each other?
I do like a bit of squishy nose sometimes.
Do you want to learn an interesting fact?…
Dolphins only use half of their brain at a time when sleeping. They float near the surface like a log because unlike you and I who breathe naturally, dolphins have to consciously take each and every breath. Therefore they have to switch sides of the brains when sleeping so they can rest AND continue breathing.
See… They are interesting to listen to!
And what’s a date without a walk along the beach…
And a bit of canoodling amongst the rocks…
But every date soon comes to an end… and if your lucky, it’s no shame because it just leads to the next date, the next adventure, the next phase, the next story, the next true love.
I had such a wonderful time with you both this weekend and now I’m just that much more excited for your September Wedding. Enjoy your trip back to the States to meet your new nephew. I can’t wait for you guys to see the rest of the photos. Big Hugs xx
