I first met Charlotte as a bridesmaid the previous year. With her gentle caring nature and her incredible smile, it was hard not to like her instantly. So when she emailed 9 months out from their wedding day to say her and Tom were newly engaged, I was SO elated that we were available to capture their day.
Charlotte and Tom are small town folk, born and raised in the tiniest of New Zealand towns. Tom from Porangahau in Central Hawkes Bay and Charlotte here in the South in mighty Parnassus. They met as travelling kiwis in the big city lights of London. Both being from such small townships, when Tom found out that Charlotte was from a smaller town than himself… well.. he really didn’t think it got much smaller than Porangahau. You learn something new every day!
Over their 5 years together, a lot of their time together has been long distance for many reasons. But one particular time apart (just a small girls trip to the tropics of Bali) Charlotte came home to spend her birthday with her man. Disguised by the fact that it was in fact her birthday, she was completely taken aback when the ring box inside her birthday present, was in fact an engagement ring. Tom really must of missed her this time eh!! hehe.
Together they are so lovely, thoughtful and completely down to earth and residing in the slighter bigger town of Porangahau, Hawkes Bay. It was such a privilege to be trusted to capture their incredible day… And here it is!
I think one of my favourite parts from this beautifully elegant and divine day, was Charlotte’s love for her girls. The kind, caring, down to earth nature of Charlotte, exploded with excitement and just couldn’t get over how smoking hot her bridesmaids were once those dresses went on. And they diiid look smoking hot!
Back across the stream from the Heritage Hotel in Hanmer Springs, Charlotte goes from absolutely gorgeous to absolutely DIVINE in a matter of seconds. Her heart is skipping and frolicking a million miles a a second as she’s moments closer to marrying her small town country man.
Charlotte’s Dad got her Grandfather’s automobile chugging (yes automobile… old and amazing!) And had the honour of driving her to the ceremony all of 1 and half minutes away from where they were. Charlotte was so close to her Grandfather who passed away midway through last year. He is dearly missed, however having his car there as a memory of him and Charlotte being able to drive to her ceremony in it, made the day that much more special. I know he was looking down on his beautiful granddaughter with the proudest heart.
The day had been threatening rain from the get go. Drips and dribbles here and there, but when it came to the crunch the clouds mostly parted and Charlotte and Tom were able to have their outdoor ceremony under blue skies.
Follow me through to Part 2 of this beautiful wedding, the vows are still to come, along with some rainy day magic (yes, the rain did come!)
