Getting married in Christchurch is highly popular for locals, Kiwis from around New Zealand and even for many visitors from overseas.
The diverse range of beautiful old buildings and hidden alleyways mixed with smart modern complexes and many pleasant gardens and waterways makes Christchurch a fantastic place to get married with some wonderful opportunities for memorable and creative photography.
Chistchurch Wedding Venues
If you’re getting married in Christchurch, you’ll find that there are a large number of wedding venues to choose from, ranging from traditional churches and modern churches to vineyards and historic hotels to gardens and other outdoor areas.
Some wedding venues that I would recommend include:
Hinton’s Estate Vineyard – a cosy vineyard on the outskirts of Christchurch.
Trents Vineyard Estate – a romantic italian inspired vineyard and wedding venue in Templeton, South of Christchurch.
Cossars Wineshed – just 20 minutes out of Christchurch but feels a million miles from anywhere, and that’s what makes it so special!
Wedding Photography Locations in Christchurch
One of the greatest reasons to get married in Christchurch is the wonderful range of photo opportunities that the city and surrounding areas provides.
Having lived in Christchurch all my life, I’ve come to know Christchurch like the back of my hand and have some favourite treasured locations that I like to take people for some really creative and unique photographs.
If you have a particular style of setting that you would like to be photographed at, Christchurch pretty much offers everything:
Wedding Photography on the Beach
Christchurch is lucky to have three brilliant beaches that each offer something unique. New Brighton beach features long panoramas with an impressive pier. Sumner beach has some wonderful rock features that make for really awesome photographs. Taylor’s Mistake beach is a little more out of the way but has some quaint beach baches that are so cute that you just want to eat them!
Urban Wedding Photos
If you prefer a bit more of the inner-city urban stlye, you won’t be disappointed by the unique cityscapes that Christchurch offers. Christchurch is home to a unique style of building – from old English heritage buildings to modern and stylish offices. There are a number of fantastic alleyways and passageways that make you almost feel like you’re in a trendy European town. Not to mention the extensive gardens and waterways for which Christchurch is famous for.
On your engagement photography shoot, I can drive you around to a couple of my favourite destinations so that you get a feel for how great a back-drop they could make when it comes to your actual wedding photographs.
Photos with a View
With easy access to the Port Hills, there are some great opportunities for wedding photographs that feature impressive panoramas that cover from the ocean, across the Canterbury Plains and over to the mighty Southern Alps.
The rock features of the hills along with the Christchurch Gondola can make for some interesting, creative and unique wedding photographs.
