Apparently you’re not meant to have “favourites” but this is a wedding I can’t help but favour the most. When it comes to your own family… Favouritism is absolute. <—Bold, italic and underlined!! I mean it baby! haha
Last Sunday – rainy, drizzly, slightly hyperthermic Sunday… my sister married the love of her life. At Hinton’s Vineyard here in Christchurch, in a small intimate ceremony of 40 guests. My sister smiled a smile and shared a look, that I’ve not seen her give to anyone else in the world. A beautiful smile, and an endearing look that reveals to the world… “All my dreams have come true with you today”.
My sister is 7 years older than me. She was my greatest friend growing up. The one who changed my nappies, dropped me on my head and sang me to sleep most nights. I wanted to be just like her in every way possible. … …Theeen she started having kids. Five whole kids down the track, I changed my tune a little… ‘Maaaybe I don’t wanna be like her completely‘ haha. She is an incredible Mum to 5 very active, vocal and awe-inspiring boys ranging between 2 and 15. She was 100% born to be a Mum, even though she claimed for the longest amount of time that she was “never having kids”. Thank goodness that didn’t end up being the truth! Hiiiii Michael, Anthony, Samuel, Troy and Alexxxx! :) hehe.
My sister Carol is an amazing woman. She’s honest, so very very caring, and looks for the best in everyone. But she’s always been somewhat of a closed book. …Until Terry came along.
A few years ago, Terry came into her life determined to win her heart and read each page of that beautiful novel that is still being written. She definitely made him work for her love. (She did have 4 sons to think of after all.) But persistence pays off and this kind, caring, thoughtful guy became apart of the family instantly!
They look at each other as if they’re the only two people in the world. Terry showed my sister what true love really is all about… and now they’re writting their book together.
Here’s a bit of their story leading up to their wedding. Below is them at Doug and my wedding in 2011. Thanks to Jessica Jones Photography for these gorgeous photos.
Sunday 26th January 2014. Their Wedding Day.
From the beginning of the day, until the end.. they spent their entire wedding day together. It was nice for them to go through all the cards and lovely messages people had sent them.
We all arrived at Hinton’s 2 hours before the ceremony to set up and chat with everyone. Alex is wiping his eyes from the very little sleep he gave his Mum and Dad the night before. But not to worry… he’s ready for wedding day action! And he was on FIRE! hehe.
During the course of the day, Doug and I took turns behind the camera. But Doug… he took the photos that captured my heart and I know will capture the heart of my family. He took photos of my family, that I couldn’t dreaaaam of taking… ever! Photos that actually caused full blown tears down my cheeks and the biggest cheshire cat smile on my face when I saw them for the first time.
… This is one of them! This is my beautiful Mum who I love to the ends of the earth and back. She’s amazing and Doug wins best husband award for taking the most amazing photos of those I love!
Alex was a hoot all day long… while his brothers thought he was just slapping the walls like a weirdo… he knew what he was doing! … He got that bug and he was showing Uncle Doug with pride what he’d caught.
Michael’s an awesome guy. He’s my oldest nephew at 15. He’s super funny and really helpful. He was holding the umbrella over my head as I took a few family photos while it rained. And then I started feeling drizzle around me.. again and again and again. “Michael, STOP shaking the umbrella!!” with a little slap to the arm (love tap.. love tap of course haha). A gasp of “What the heck did I do?” from Michael and I turn around and there Doug is, cheeky as all hell, egging him on to jerk the umbrella up, so that rain on the umbrella would create the effect below. Sorry for slapping you Michael… but also… Don’t listen to your Uncle Doug haha.
Follow the passion through to Part 2… where there is so much more beauty to come…
