Doug and I were prepared…. November was set to be a busy month with loooots of travelling to each ends of the country and even a trip over the ditch! … There are no Christchurch weddings this month!
So on the 31st of October, we packed out bags and our car and headed almost as far South as we could possibly go (and the furtherest South Doug has ever been) and headed into the Catlins to capture the gorgeous wedding of Melissa & Blain.
I loved Melissa and Blain the first time I met them, but really got to know them during their engagement shoot last month. I was looking forward to the insane beauty Melissa brings to the table, and her gentle nature. And I was looking forward to giving Blain some of his own medicine back and going into some friendly banter with him! hehe … They are total contrasts as a couple, however over time have completely rubbed off on each other. They are a dynamite team and so clearly in love and ready for the next phase in their lives! They are REAL… and we LOVE real!!!
Melissa’s very talented Florist friend made these gorgeous bouquets! .. It’s who ya know I tell you!! ;-)
Bron is pearled up and ready to go!
Super stoked with her hair that she has been diligently growing for years, for this very day!! … Gorgeous!
A loving hug from Mum!
Down at River Ridge Retreat. Blain in ready in a split second and the guests steadily arrive!
Good Bye overcast day… hellooooo blue skies. As Doug always says.. it’s better to wish for sunshine and get overcast, than wish for overcast and get rain. (Although we are alwaaaays ready for some rain shot action!! ;-) )
I made the mistake of saying I was from Christchurrrrch – rolling the R… when chatting to these two amazing musicians. They tried to claim me as a Southlander… Sorrrrry guys… Cantabrian, born and breed! … ;-)
3.15pm. Here comes your future wife!
Husband and Wife! Wohooo!
“… … …” I’m sitting on this particular photo. I want to say something, but the right words having come yet… I don’t want to just say something quick and easy about how gorgeous they are… which is in fact the truth. For some reason… this particular photo of Melissa and Blain, as simple as it is… makes my skin tingle. I don’t know whether it is the fact that Blain gave me a litttttle bit of a run for my money during their engagement shoot and I thought he was going to be a hard one to crack when it came to ‘showing the looove’ that I did know was there. And here he is, looking at his new wife and as far as he is concerned… I don’t exist to him. He looks like he’s won a million dollars. And Melissa… well her smile and her kind eyes that Blain is so intoxicated by… might as well be that million dollars. I don’t think these two have felt richer in their lives. … This photo makes me happy, because they look so happy! And that’s what our job is all about! Happiness!
And these girls, sooo beautiful!
We swapped the gnarly trees, jumped in the car and headed towards the beach!
And booooooy was it windy there!
The reception was running a little behind due to some unfortunate circumstances…. but heeeey, who the heck is complaining here… not very often I’m still on location at 7pm at night and getting the BEST light eveeer!! … I know, I know… Photographers doooo go crazy for GRAND light!!! … Who can blame us though!!
The gorgeous River Ridge Retreat, held the ceremony and the the reception. Gosh it’s nice being in the middle of nowhere!!
The sun was going down… this.. was a MUST!!
And so was this!! … Back to the spot that announced them as husband and wife.
We are the type of people, that happily welcome suggestions… some may work… and some may not. But when they do work… they work like this! … Melissa’s Dad came down to watch the night time shots… he was eagerly watching me over my shoulder and ‘Oooh-ing and ‘Argh-iiing’ Each time I took a shot and he saw the back of my screen. He had nothing but good things to say which were sooo appreciated! … And then he suggested if we didn’t mind… a photo emphasizing the tree of wisdom! … The tree that binds love together, grounds you and produces the deepest roots for a great marriage. So we took his suggestion. And I looove the result!!
Melissa and Blain… we had an outstanding day with you! … You are such an awesome couple and it was such a huge privilege to be brought down from Christchurch to capture your amazing day in the Catlins. I hope you both enjoyed your Rarotongan holiday and are feeling nice and relaxed now!
Enjoy your wedding day sneak peek! Plenty more where this came from! :)
Lots of Love,
Heather & Doug xoxo
