Sophie and Danny met at a UV party 2 years earlier (“typical huh?” she sez). Not a lot was said to one another all night. Sophie went home and a friend helped fate along and gave Danny Sophie’s number.
Danny and Sophie had an amazing connection straight away and they spent as much time together as possible fishing, walking and dining together.
Danny was quick to know that he didn’t want to look any further in a life partner and he surprised Sophie after 3 months together in proposing on a cliff side in Milford Sound.
They weren’t intending to get married until 2012 after the arrival of their beautiful son Caleb, now 6 months old.
They bought the date forward to January 2011. Even that wasn’t soon enough and October 2nd was picked as they learned of the terminal illness of Sophie’s Dad. Sophie’s Dad, Barry was diagnosed with terminal cancer in May of this year. Sophie’s Mum, Bridget, and her sister’s Tessa and Annie have endured the most intense and emotional 6 months with Barry in and out of Hospice care and a Wedding to plan in the hope that he would walk Sophie down the aisle. Sophie’s Dad passed away with his family around him on October 1st 2010.
The amazing strength that came from the Russell family was incredible. They entered Sophie & Danny’s Wedding Day with massive smiles, genuine laughs and high spirits. Barry Russell was remembered with a candle at the ceremony. Sophie attached his Wedding ring and a locket with his photo in it to her bouquet and a little orange digger followed them around representing a part of him.
The day was filled with happiness, smiles and strength. They were married at St Peter’s Chanel in Green Island, Dunedin. We headed to the Hospice where Sophie’s Dad lived out his days to see the wonderful staff that took such good care of him. And then headed to the Train Station and Beach for some fun photos.
Thank you Sophie & Danny in making Doug and I feel soooo apart of your lives. You opened your hearts to us and it was a pleasure to witness and capture such love and beauty within a family.
Lots of Love, Heather xxx
